In a statement, Wennesland emphasized the ongoing toll on civilians, stating, “Every day civilians continue to bear the brunt of this conflict amid horror, displacement and suffering.”

The UN envoy expressed deep concern over the latest strike, which resulted in dozens of fatalities at a school sheltering thousands of displaced individuals. He highlighted the mounting human cost of the war, pointing to this incident as a stark example of the conflict’s devastating impact on non-combatants.

Wennesland’s appeal for a ceasefire comes amid escalating violence and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The UN continues to stress the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to protect civilian lives and alleviate the widespread suffering in the region.
