A devastating incident unfolded in Attock’s Dheri Kot area on Thursday when unidentified assailants opened fire on a school van, resulting in the tragic loss of two children’s lives and injuring five others, including the driver. Rescue 1122 Punjab reported that the victims, aged between 10 and 12 years, were immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

Local law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene, with the Attock police launching an investigation. Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa stated that the attack stemmed from “personal enmity” and was primarily directed at the driver. He assured that a case has been registered against the suspects, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The incident has drawn national attention, with President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemning the attack. In a statement from the President House, he called for strict action against those responsible, describing the targeting of innocent children as “cruel and shameful.” The President offered prayers for the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also taken notice of the tragedy, requesting a detailed report from Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar. She expressed her deep sorrow over the loss of young lives and directed authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured children.
As the community grapples with this shocking event, authorities are intensifying their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent such incidents in the future.
