President Asif Ali Zardari has directed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti to implement stringent measures for the complete eradication of terrorist activities following recent attacks in Balochistan.

The directive comes in response to a series of coordinated assaults by militants linked to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) across the province. These attacks, which began on Sunday night, targeted security personnel and civilians, resulting in at least 50 fatalities, including 14 security personnel.

During a meeting at the President House, Zardari was briefed on the security situation and recent terrorist incidents. He emphasized the need for effective strategies to improve security in Balochistan and urged officials to take all necessary steps to address the situation.

The attacks, which spanned multiple locations, included:

  • Musakhail: 23 people killed after ID verification
  • Khadkocha: Highway blockade and police station siege
  • Kalat: Attacks on Levies station, hotels, and a tribal elder’s residence
  • Bolan: Six bodies discovered in Kolpur area

In response, security forces neutralized 21 militants. Both CM Bugti and Interior Minister Naqvi have pledged to eliminate terrorism in the province.

Naqvi, speaking alongside CM Bugti in Quetta, assured full federal support for Balochistan’s counterterrorism efforts. He stated that while some actions are visible, others are being implemented behind the scenes under CM Bugti’s leadership.

The interior minister emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards such incidents and promised a strong response to those responsible for planning and executing these attacks.

CM Bugti highlighted the challenges posed by Balochistan’s vast terrain and the terrorists’ strategies. He explained how militants exploit vulnerabilities and target soft spots, often blending into society before striking.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing a federal cabinet meeting, called for national unity and a resolute approach to tackling terrorism. He stressed the importance of identifying the country’s enemies and moving forward with determination.

In the Senate, discussions on the attacks led to heated debates. Senators questioned the role of intelligence agencies and called for addressing the longstanding issues in Balochistan. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that while negotiations are possible with those who accept Pakistan’s sovereignty, the government condemns those who target innocents under the guise of grievances.

The government’s response to these attacks and its strategy for long-term security in Balochistan will be closely watched in the coming days.
