COAS Munir Decries Social Media as Breeding Ground for Anarchy in Pakistan

In a stern message, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has warned that “anarchy” is being spread through social media. The army chief made these remarks while addressing an Ulema-o-Mashaikh Conference in Islamabad on Thursday.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), COAS Munir said, “If someone tries to create chaos in Pakistan, by God, we will stand before him. No power in the world can harm Pakistan because this country is built to last.”

The army chief urged scholars and clerics to encourage tolerance and unity in society instead of extremism or discrimination, saying that they should “bring back moderation in the society and reject corruption in the world”.

This comes as the military has been facing an intensifying wave of criticism on social media, which it has labeled as “digital terrorism”. The army has vowed to combat and defeat these anti-military campaigns proliferating across online platforms.

ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry had earlier this week said that not enough was being done against “digital terrorism” under the law, allowing fake news and propaganda to spread in the country.

The army chief also addressed the issue of terrorism, saying that the Pakhtun community had made a lot of sacrifices in the war against terrorism and that the nation stood with it. He referred to the “Khawarij” as a “great fitna (tribulation)” and said that criminal and smuggling mafias were supporting terrorism.

Munir also spoke about the Kashmir dispute, describing it as an “incomplete agenda” between Pakistan and India, and expressed regret at the Israeli atrocities in Gaza, saying, “The heart sheds tears of seeing the atrocities on Palestine and Gaza.”Cop
